Missouri FBLA-PBL partners with many outside organizations to create special and unique opportunities for students to engage in hands-on business education. Through these events, students can explore new areas of business, be challenged with a new way of thinking, and expand their leadership skills through teamwork.
stock market challenge
Students in the FBLA-PBL Stock Market Game (SMG) may work individually or in teams of two to five members to build and manage a successful investment portfolio of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, using a hypothetical $100,000. They track their investments over the course of 15 weeks, receiving valuable opportunities to practice core math, English Language Arts, and research skills as well as fundamental business, economics and social studies content in a real world scenario. Game dates for the Fall 2023 SMG are 10/7/23 – 12/15/23.
The Spring 2023 SMG dates are 2/12/24- 4/19/24.
The registration fee for an individual or team of two to 5 students is $10.95. Students will be ranked by division and winners will be publicized through FBLA-PBL.

Knowledge Matters is sponsoring the Virtual Business Finance Challenge, a newly recognized official competitive event. This event will be based on the Virtual Business–Personal Finance Online simulation. FBLA members will use the simulation to test their skills at managing their own financial lives and will compete against students across the country. Members will experience real world financial issues such as budgeting, saving, opening bank accounts, getting a credit card, monitoring credit scores, education and advancement, online banking, paying taxes, finding a job, insurance, and more.
There will be two qualifying rounds held via the Internet during the school year:
October 17, 2023 (10:00 a.m. EST) – November 10, 2023 (5:00 p.m. EST)
January 31, 2024 (10:00 a.m. EST) – February 20, 2024 (5:00 p.m. EST)
The top eight nationally ranked teams from each qualifying round will qualify to compete at the NLC. Only one team per state per round may qualify.

lifesmarts
LifeSmarts is a national educational competition focused on personal finance and consumer topics. It complements the curriculum already in place in schools and can be used as an activity for classes, groups, clubs, and community organizations. This free program, open to 6th-12th-grade students in the United States, quizzes students about personal finance, health and safety, the environment, technology, and consumer rights and responsibilities.
FBLA teams may compete on the LifeSmarts website where they will have the opportunity to win monthly “TeamSmarts” challenges and compete against other chapters for the right to represent FBLA at the National LifeSmarts Championship each April.
LifeSmarts is a program of the National Consumers League, which was founded in 1899, and is America’s pioneer consumer organization.

GlobalHack hackathons bring together engineers, developers, UI/UX designers, entrepreneurs, and technologists for weekend-long software competitions. Small teams across youth, college, and professional divisions work around the clock to build innovative software solutions that solve real-world, civic problems. The teams’ final prototypes are then presented to a panel of highly-qualified industry experts and cash prizes are awarded to the top teams.

The Missouri Personal Finance Challenge is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge of personal finance by competing with other students across the state. Students compete in teams of four. In the preliminary Online Round, student teams complete an online exam that covers key personal finance concepts in
The state is divided into four geographic regions. The top two placing teams in each region will advance to the State Finals on April 14, 2017, at the Governor Office Building in Jefferson City. At the State Finals, teams will participate in 3 rounds of multiple-choice testing, with a final quiz bowl between the two top-scoring teams. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the students and teachers for the first and second place teams.
The first place team at the State Finals will represent Missouri at the National Personal Finance Challenge that will be held on May 5 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
No formal courses in Personal Finance are required. Any team of students interested in personal finance is encouraged to compete, but must have an adult coach. Schools may enter multiple teams in the online competition.
There is no cost to either teachers or students to participate in the Personal Finance Challenge ONLINE!
Research has shown that student competitions increase student participation, promote attendance, and help students achieve higher grades and test scores. For teachers, the Challenge provides a useful tool to help encourage students and generate excitement for classroom materials.
The Missouri Personal Finance Challenge is hosted annually by the Missouri Council on Economic Education, with support from its network of university-based centers of economic education.
